Corfu Animal Rescue was launched in 2003 to house the island's strays. They need food, bedding, monetary donations and people to foster and adopt.

"The chief objective of CARE is to provide a safe and secure sanctuary for all the local stray and unwanted dogs, puppies and cats on the Island. The next priority is to find suitable homes for the various animals, both in Greece and overseas. CARE presently has a small shelter near Sidari, situated in the north of the Island. With limited space and facilities, this means we sadly cannot take in all the reported strays but CARE has a mobile unit and along with groups of volunteers, has set up feeding stations and the sterilization of these animals wherever possible."

What can you do to help? You might be able to offer:

1) A loving home for our rescue dogs

2) To act as an escort for dogs to their new homes

3) Donations of dog food

4) Help with walking and playing with the dogs

5) Dog behaviourist skills, to specific dogs overcome particular issues

6) Veterinary skills, to neuter dogs for free and/or provide other veterinary assistance

7) Vaccine donations

8) Help with meeting our veterinary bills
