Evia is the second-largest Greek island in area and population, after Crete. The narrow Euripus Strait separates it from Boeotia in mainland Greece. In general outline it is a long and narrow, seahorse-shaped island; it is about 150 kilometres (93 mi) long.

Its general direction is from northwest to southeast, and it is traversed throughout its length by a mountain range, which forms part of the chain that bounds Thessaly on the east, and is continued south of Euboea in the lofty islands of Andros, Tinos and Mykonos.(Wikipedia)

Halkida Dog Shelter is located about 55 miles from Athens on Evia Island, Halkida. They require dog-walkers, volunteers, donations of equipment and food, and homes for the dogs.

"Our Shelter was founded in 1996 (Reg.Charity No.317/1996) and our aim is to look after, sterilize, medically treat & home the stray animals. All members are volunteers and support the welfare society with dues. Apart from this, sometimes we have donations to help us but it's never enough." If you're visiting the island, please do visit our shelter at Vasiliko - maybe you would like to take some of our dogs for a walk - good for you and good for them..."
